Description

Formed in its namesake city in 1967, Chicago is the first American band ever to chart albums in Billboard®’s Pop Top 40 in five consecutive decades. In 2002, Rhino entered into a long-term partnership with this extraordinary group to restore their extensive, genre-defying catalogue as well as develop new projects (such as 2006’s XXX, their first new studio album in a decade). Now Rhino adds to Chicago’s legacy and salutes their 40th anniversary with a newly compiled 2-CD collection that spans their entire recording history, from the stellar 1969 debut LP Chicago Transit Authority to Chicago XXX. With a career encompassing five consecutive #1 albums, 13 platinum albums, 21 Top 10 singles, and many other laurels, Chicago is among the most successfully charting American groups of all time.

Summary: "Too many songs edited"

I like Chicago - I really do. But, too many songs on this collection have been edited down, some beyond reason.

This collection is by Rhino records. The name says it all - they gore songs beyond reason. If it says Rhino - don't buy it. I notived one more collection in my CD rack that was from Rhino (Doobie Brothers) - again, edits (like the great guitar solo in "Jesus is Just Alright")

Don't by Rhino.

Summary: "Chicago"

I ordered two of Chicago's Cd's and thoroughly enjoy both of them. The Best of Chicago 40th Anniversary has a lot of the same songs as the other one does, but I still enjoy listening to them. I have one at home and I listen to the other one in the car. I was a little apprehensive on ordering online, but tried it and Amazon made it easy and the CD's were top notch. I would definitely order CD's again.

Summary: "great compilation of radio versions"

Depending on whether or not you enjoy the radio edits, you will either love or hate this one. All the hits are here, in the shortened form you've heard on the radio show years. If you'll looking for the "original" versions that you know from the various Chicago albums, this is not what you're looking for. If you don't mind skipping out on some extra choruses and breaks though, this album packs a punch. Best for the serious Chicago fan or else those who are casual listeners and want only the hits, probably not the people in between.

Summary: "Too short in the long run"

Rhino should be ashamed of itself. For a label that has distinguished itself on great reissues, this compilation sucks--unless your'e totally into Top 40 radio edits, which don't so justice to the original tracks from this band's great early career that defined jazz-rock along with BS&T.
Do not waste your hard earned $$$ on this crap unless you have the attention span of a three-year-old.
